Sports Videos

Sports Videos are a huge responsibility for a videographer. Assuming the athlete in question is talented enough to be a contender for a scholarship, a professionally produced video can make the difference between a scholarship package worth many thousands of dollars at the school of one's choice, and on the other hand paying full tuition at a second-tier school. We take that responsibility very seriously, and while we can't guarantee that you will get the scholarship you seek, we do guarantee to do everything we can to produce the best possible sports video for you. Let True Colors Video be a part of your team!

     Key points:

  • College coaches are very busy, and it is a mistake to assume that they know what a valuable addition you would be to their team simply because you are a talented and well-known athlete in your local area. They do not have the staff to scout every prospect, so you need to get their attention. Don't wait for them to come to you; you need to go to them, and a professionally produced sports video is the primary means for accomplishing this.
  • The video must be short, hard-hitting, and to the point. Again, coaches cannot spare the time to sit through an hours-long epic. The optimum length is 3-5 minutes, opening and closing with the player's contact info, and packed with highlight clips in-between. You can also add player stats, press quotes, coach contact info and recommendations, awards and achievements, scholastic info (GPA), and/or a brief player interview. The idea is to show just enough to make them want to learn more about you. If you really feel it is necessary to show a complete game, it should be a separate chapter on the DVD, allowing the coach to watch the highlights first and then have the option to watch a complete game.
  • The video should utilise slow-motion, stop-motion, instant replay and a high-energy soundtrack to emphasise the player's strengths.
  • It must be very clear who is the subject of the video. A common complaint of coaches is that due to the scramble of players on the field, they often cannot determine just who it is they are supposed to be evaluating. During the editing process we use highlighting techniques to draw the viewer's eye to the player in question, eliminating this fatal flaw.
  • It is necessary to make it easy for the coach to watch the video. You can mail out DVDs, and of course these can be very effective. But an alternative is to email a video link to to the coach, who can then instantly watch the video on-line. This is the fastest and most cost-effective way to get your video seen, and True Colors Video can make your video available on-line at no extra charge.

In addition to all of the above points, with True Colors Video you have the option of playing an active role in the editing process. If you choose this option we will edit the raw footage down to candidate clips, in other words those which might possibly be included in the finished video, then number these and post them on-line for your review. Although an experienced videographer has a better eye for what makes a compelling video, the athlete often knows best which clips show him or her in the most favorable light, simply because the athlete knows the sport firsthand. The combination of these two points of view can result in a superior end product.

An on-line demo is available upon request.
